Why a national seminar on territorial spatial intelligence — and why now.
Algeria faces major territorial challenges: pressure on resources, rapid urbanisation, growing climate vulnerability and the need for balanced rural development. These challenges call for innovative, achievable responses. Faced with this complexity, traditional analysis and planning tools often reach their limits.
At the same time, Algeria has made ambitious strategic investments in space and digital technologies. The growing expertise in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing, together with initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI), constitute a valuable technological effort.
Yet a gap persists between this technological potential and its optimal use by public decision-makers. The strength of these tools lies in their convergence: AI brings the power of analysis and prediction, while geomatics provides the spatial framework and the data. This fusion creates a “territorial spatial intelligence” — making it possible not merely to describe the territory, but to model it, simulate it and anticipate its evolutions.
